Whether the top has a straight set or a diamond set, the process for adding borders is the same. Ready?
Lay the first two border strips across the exact center of the quilt top. You can do both at once, or one at a time as shown. Notch the strips at precisely the quilt's width. (I'd avoid notching any deeper than 1/4" in case of mistakes.) A little imperfection is okay, but this step should be done as accurately as you can manage.
Cut the strips at the notches...
...ease the strips to fit the quilt edges (pins can be nice for this part), and sew them on. Press the seams toward the borders.
Repeat the process for the second set of border strips, only this time go the other way.
All right! The scrap blocks blankie top is now ready for backing. Well done!
