Adding the Borders

Back

Measuring Top for First Borders
Measure through the CENTER of the quilt top, and cut two border strips to exactly this measurement. (In this particular case, 24-3/4".)

Measuring First Borders
You may need to join two or more shorter strips to make border strips of sufficient length. Don't worry -- it looks fine.

Top with First Pair of Borders
Ease borders to fit quilt top (use pins if necessary) and sew. Press seams toward the borders.

Measuring Top for Second Borders
Repeat for the second pair of border strips.

Measuring Second Borders
(These happen to be 29" long.)

Notching Borders
You can also skip the measuring tape altogether. Lay the first pair of border strips precisely over the quilt top's center, notch and cut them to match; sew and press -- then repeat with the second pair of border strips. Mind, be accurate, and don't notch past 1/8" in case you mis-measure.

Finished Blankie Top!
Again, press seams toward the borders.

The quilt top is now ready to be backed and finished!
