Making the Star/Sky Blocks

Back

Blue and Black Triangles
If you have only two colors of triangles -- say, black triangles and blue triangles -- assembling the star/sky blocks is very easy.

Remember, ALL SEAMS ARE 1/2 INCH.

Aligning the Triangles
Simply align each blue triangle with a black triangle, WRONG sides OUT...

Sewing Triangles Together
...and sew them together on the LONGEST edge, as shown.

Unbroken Threads
To save time while sewing, DON'T BREAK the thread between triangle pairs.

Three Colors of Triangles
If you have three or more colors of triangles -- thus making it possible to put the wrong colors together -- it's a good idea to lay them out around the log cabin square before sewing them. Picking mistakes apart isn't hard, but it's boring.

Blocks after Sewing
Each resulting block will include 1) the SKY color (light blue in the above photo), and 2) either the STAR (light brown) or FRAME (dark blue) color...

Blocks after Sewing
...unless, of course, you use the same color for both STAR and FRAME triangles, such as those shown above.

Pressed Blocks Back Side
Go ahead and snip the connecting threads. Press each block towards its STAR or FRAME color.

The star/sky blocks are now finished!
