Pinning Quilt Top to Fleece Backing

Back

Plywood
Find a hard, flat surface such as a large piece of plywood.

Fleece on Plywood
Lay the fleece fabric down over the plywood.

Fleece Smoothed Out
Check for puckers and saggy spots, and smooth them away by running your hands over the fabric.

Top on Fleece
Lay the quilt top carefully over the fleece fabric.

Top on Fleece
Start pinning! I use large (1.5") safety pins. You will be sewing in most of the seams, so avoid placing safety pins where they'll get in the way.

Cutting the Fleece
Now you can cut around the edges of the quilt top, and presto; the backing is firmly in place and ready for sewing. Cut accurately -- it makes the binding seam easier to attach.

Cutting the Fleece
All right!

Cutting the Fleece
Trim the other two sides, if they need it, and the quilt will be ready for machine-quilting. Yahoo!
